Ikeja

Lagos State's capital, Ikeja, is located in southwest Nigeria. According to the 2006 census, 313,196 people called it home. Shopping centers, pharmacies, government reservation areas, and a peaceful, orderly residential and commercial community characterized Ikeja until military authority emerged in the early 1980s.

Ikeja was originally named "Akeja" after one of the Ota god worshipped by the Awori people. The Awori people were the first to settle there, and up to the middle of the 19th century, slave raids were conducted there. It developed into Lagos's agricultural hinterland at the beginning of the 20th century.
